Board of Trustees
Mike Liggett is a partner in the law firm of Liggett, Smith & Johnson, P.C., and has been practicing law in Fort Collins since 1978.
Mike was appointed to the initial Board of Trustees for the Library District in 2007, and was reappointed in March of 2012. He has served as Vice President and President of the Board of Trustees. As a nearly life-long resident of Fort Collins, he has been committed to public service and the success of the community.
He has served on the Board of Education for the Poudre School District as Vice President and President, and the Board of Directors of the Fort Collins Baseball Club as Vice President and President. He has served on the Colorado State University Liberal Arts College Advancement Counsel and as the Co-Director of the CSU/PSD education think tank.
Professionally, he has served on the Board of Directors of Colorado State University Legal Services, is a life member of the Colorado Criminal Defense Bar, served as President of the Victim Advocate Law Enforcement Board, served as a Governor's appointment to the Judicial Performance Commission, and is a current Governor's appointment to the Judicial Selection Commission. Additionally, he has lectured and spoken at many classes and seminars for legal education.
Mike and his wife, Annie, have been married 39 years. Their daughter, Sarah, is a practicing lawyer, and their son, Morgan, is on the football staff of the Colorado School of Mines. When not engaged in business, or with family, he is most comfortable with a book of poetry and a fly rod. He believes that open and public access to libraries provides all citizens with information, discovery, and enlightenment – a key to a free and democratic society.
