eReader Questions and Answers

What is an eReader?

An eReader is an electronic device designed for reading digital books. Each one can hold an enormous number of eBooks (electronic books). Large print book readers will love the feature that adjusts font size to suit their needs. eReaders are wireless, portable and easy to use.

Why is Poudre River Public Library District circulating eReaders?

eReaders are available to Poudre River Public Library District cardholders for several reasons: 1) to give patrons a chance to try eReaders and become familiar with them, 2) to provide electronic access to popular and educational titles, and 3) to encourage readers to give feedback to the Library about their eReader experiences and preferences.

Place a Nook on hold

Which eReaders does Poudre River Public Library District have?

The Library has Nook Simple Touch and Nook Color eReaders for circulation. The Library also has a Book Club Kit with 10 Simple Touch Nooks, binder, tips and a sign out sheet in the kit.

Who can borrow an eReader?

Any library cardholder in good standing may check out a Nook for 3 weeks, the book club kit for 6 weeks. One of our goals of this project is to bridge the digital divide; while we encourage responsible use, all patrons should have access to this new technology.

Please be aware that the Nook provides unfiltered access to the internet. Please do not enter personal data on the Nook, including email, passwords, credit card numbers, etc., as they may become accessible to other patrons.

Do I have to download ebooks myself?

The Library has preloaded many wonderful books for you. The Nook Simple Touch eReaders contain new and popular bestsellers, mysteries, biographies and YA novels. The Nook Color eReaders have wonderful titles aimed at a younger audience for families with young children. Overdrive is also preloaded onto the Nook Color, so you may choose to download your own titles from Overdrive. Please remember to log out of Overdrive before returning the Nook to the Library.

Will I be charged to borrow an eReader, or if I return it late or damaged?

As with other library items, there is no charge to borrow but fees are charged for late, damaged, or lost eReaders.

Replacement costs if lost or damaged:
Color Nook = $249
Simple Touch Nook = $139
Cord, plug, or case = $10 each

Any lost or missing Nooks will be blacklisted and will not be useable. They will no longer be registered with Barnes & Noble and cannot be re-registered.

How long can I keep the eReader?

Just like a book, circulation is 3 weeks. Renewals are allowed, if the Nook is not on hold for someone else. Book Club kits circulate for 6 weeks.

Can I reserve an eReader?

Yes, you may put an eReader on hold, as you would a book. You will be notified when one is available to pickup.

Where can I get help using eReaders?

Library staff are happy to assist you at the Information Desk or you may call and ask questions or utilize one of the links below. You will also receive a brief set of instructions when you check out an eReader.
