Download and Install Adobe Digital Editions to your PC

In order to download free eBooks from PRPLD's Overdrive service, you'll need the Adobe Digital Editions software on your PC. eBooks come in various formats. eBooks can be read on your computer, laptop, or netbook using the Adobe Digital Editions software. They can also be transferred to some portable devices, including Sony Readers, Nook, Kobo, Literati Reader, and Pandigital Novel.

Note: IPads and IPhones can download Overdrive eBooks with the Bluefire Reader app available in the iTunes store. The Kindle is NOT compatible at this time.

Download and Install Adobe Digital Editions
  1. Navigate to the library's Overdrive page (http://overdrive.poudrelibraries.org) and click on Adobe Digital Editions on the right sidebar.

  2. Click 'To download Adobe Digital Editions, click here'.

  3. Scroll down and click 'Install' and click 'Install' again, then 'Yes'.

  4. Follow the downloading and installation process by clicking "next" and "install" buttons.
  5. The Setup Assistant will guide you through Authorizing your computer:

  6. IF YOU HAVE NOT YET DONE SO, Click on 'get an Adobe ID online (indicated by yellow arrow). This will launch your web browser, and redirect you to the Adobe web page where you can create an Adobe ID.
  7. Click on 'Create an Adobe Account'. Fill out the form that follows and click 'Continue' at the bottom of the page.

  8. Return to Adobe Digital Editions and enter the username (email) and password you created. Make sure to also select (if not already) 'Authorize Computer'.
  9. Click the "Activate" button. (Should you ever wish to de-authorize Adobe Digital Editions, you can do so by holding down Control, Shift, and D.)
