Working with OZ Architecture and Heath Construction, the Poudre River Public Library District remodel of the Old Town Library has included energy-efficient products and certified green-building materials to reduce operating and maintenance costs and minimize environmental impact. Here is a sampling of the design elements that were included in the 9,000 square foot remodel:
- Low VOC paint
- Carpet with recycled content
- Energy efficient lighting
- Ceiling tiles have recycled content
- Added acoustical materials for better interior acoustical comfort
- Reused existing lighting and ceiling tiles in key areas
- Rubber/cork floor is made from renewable sources
- Upgraded HVAC system for better efficiency
- Reused existing walls where possible
- Porcelain tile has recycled content
- Window shades allow for view while minimizing heat and glare
- All interior materials are low off-gassing and don’t contribute to bad indoor air quality
- Low flow sinks/plumbing fixtures
- Added bike racks to promote community biking
- Reused existing stack shelving as much as possible
- New brick is locally sourced
- All interior materials and furniture were thoughtfully specified to provide maximum durability, low maintenance and low life-cycle cost
- Countertops are made out of compressed recycled paper
