History: Vote Campaign

Thank you for voting YES!

Your "yes" ensured that 85% of historic Library Park remains landscaped park space. Your "yes" vote provided for a moderate 6,000 sq. ft. expansion of the Old Town Library under the library's cantilevered second floor into value-added, indoor space for public use. Your "yes" vote did not increase property taxes or create new fees. Your "yes" vote signaled how you value and respect the original purpose and traditional uses of the park.

Poudre River Public Library sought voter approval to expand Old Town Library in Library Park on the April 2011 municipal ballot. An existing city ordinance limits the percentage of building and parking within the park area, including the footprint of the library's first floor. The Library District sought citizen permission to expand by 6,000 square feet by filling in the areas underneath the second floor overhangs.

The expansion is part of the Library District's Master Facilities Plan adopted by the Board of Trustees in 2009. The improvements will be paid for with a combination of existing library funds including capital project monies, unreserved funds and remaining capital expansion fee monies collected by the City of behalf of the library.

More than 70 volunteers circulated petitions as part of a citizen's initiative to obtain the necessary 2,517 signatures of Fort Collins residents who were also registered voters.

Thank you all for your support!
