Every Child Ready to Read
Every Child Ready to Read

TALES kits were designed with the five early literacy practices of Every Child Ready to Read in mind.

These practices are:

  • Talking - teaches children the richness of language.
  • Singing - is a natural way to teach children about words.
  • Reading - is the single most important way to help children get ready to read.
  • Writing - is reading put into action. Children learn important skills by writing and drawing.
  • Playing - teaches children how to think, imagine and express themselves.

These are the very best ways to help your child get ready to read. These five practices are easy to do with any child and can be done anywhere you and your child spend time together.

What Else Can You Do?
  • Get a library card for your child.
  • Visit the library often and check out a wide variety of materials to use at home. Ask the children's librarian for books, CDs, e-books, and magazine suggestions.
  • Take your child to storytime so he/she can be exposed to a wide range of books, songs, and fingerplays with other children his/her own age.
  • Check PRPLDs calendar for other great events and activities for your child.

Every Child Ready to Read is a project of the Association for Library Services to Children and the Public Library Association, divisions of the American Library Association.
