Computer Classes

Computer Lab at Harmony Library

The Poudre River Public Library District offers free computer classes and free eMedia classes. All Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher classes are taught using the 2010 version of Microsoft Office.

Handouts for each class are available by clicking on the links in each section. All classes are 2 hours in length, unless otherwise noted, and require you to either have taken the Computer Comfort class or have a basic understanding of using the computer and the mouse.

Please note the date and time of the classes that you have registered for on your calendar. Please call to cancel if you are not able to come to class. If you have a confirmed place in a class, please be on-time or your place may be given up to others waiting.

Computer Comfort

Do shrink from fear whenever you have been told you need to go online to get information or fill out a form? Does the mere sight of a computer screen or keyboard send shivers up your spine? Do you even know where to turn a computer on? If you answered "yes" to any of these questions, this class is for you! We'll be your guide as you learn computer basics.

Internet Searching

Web Browser or Search Engine... Secure or Unsecure site... COM, ORG, or GOV - what does all of that mean? When you use the internet, do these terms make your head spin? Join us in this class to discover the differences and find the information you want, quickly and safely.

If are you are new to computers, the Computer Comfort classes are strongly recommended before taking Beginning Word.

Word Basics

Discover how to add splash and dash to everyday documents while learning Microsoft Word 2010 basic skills. Learn how to change fonts, bullets/numbering and formatting, as well as the basics of the Ribbon, including Tabs, Groups, and Dialog Boxes.

Word Beyond Basics

Now that you understand the basics of Microsoft Word, go a step further to learn the art of using graphics/clip art, tables, and columns to turn your document into an eye-catching professional masterpiece. We’ll also explore contextual tabs and the backstage view to help you set up your own personal Tab!

Microsoft Excel

Excel Basics

This class is for people who are new to Excel. Attendees will learn how to navigate around a spreadsheet and learn basic formatting skills.

Excel Beyond Basics

Basic formulas will be introduced and attendees will learn how to create charts. For those new to Excel, the beginning Excel class is recommended before taking this class.

Microsoft Powerpoint

It seems like every week we're hearing about some new cyber threat out there with the potential to wreak havoc on our digital lives. What can you do? The library may have an answer! Join library staff in learning the basics in cybersecurity: what threats are out there, how to be on the watch for new threats, how to manage your digital footprint, and what steps you can take to protect you and your family. Let's face it: Our cell phones and tablets have become essential tools for every day life. Learn how to make your devices operate at their finest. Learn how to clean out your cookies, establish good photo editing practices, closing apps and browsers and literal cleaning tips.

Dream it? Build it! Designing 3D Models with Tinkercad

Turn your ideas into reality! Learn how to create 3D models with Tinkercad, a free, browser-based design application. With its simple drag-and-drop format, creating 3D models is more fun than ever. This class will teach you how to mix and match shapes and cutouts to make more complex designs. A robot, a name tag, a cat - anything you can dream, you can build with this easy-to-use application. Completed models can then be submitted for printing by the 3D printer at the Old Town location.

Facebook Basics on your Computer

This class is designed to help you learn to use Facebook in an internet browser on your desktop or laptop computer. In this class, you will learn basic Facebook navigation, how to create, comment on, and share posts, how to upload and manage photos, and how to manage friends lists. You will also learn to use account settings to find a level of privacy and security that is right for you.

Facebook Basics on your Device - Phones and Tablets

This class is designed to help you learn to use the Facebook app on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets. HTML5 & CSS3 Parts 1-4

Learn the basics of HTML 5 and CSS in this four part class. Participants will be introduced to the structure of an HTML page and will find out how to format text, create links, insert images, and link to a stylesheet. Intermediate computer skills are required. Participants will need to be available for all four classes and have an email account. Registration REQUIRED, and will be for all 4 classes. Google Drive allows you to create, store and share files from anywhere you have internet access. Come learn how to use this free cloud-based service to create, convert file formats, share documents, collaborate and more.

**Participants who do not already have a Google account are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to set one up.

Want to learn how to enhance, organize, and share your digital photos using a free and user-friendly photo editing program? In this course you will learn how to edit, crop and organize photos. Learn the basics of WordPress for blogging or web design.

Wordpress for Web Design

Use WordPress.com to build your own free, customizable website. Whatever reason you'd like to put together a website, this is the class for you. Want to create a site for your wedding? What about a site to display your photography? You'll learn how in this class. If you are interested in blogging, try our blogging classes. Our class instructors have selected websites that offer excellent online tutorials that are free and self-paced. If you cannot get into a class because it is already full, this is an option that you can use to still learn about Microsoft Office programs, Facebook, and more. Take a look at these various sites; they offer some great options for self-paced learning of computer programs.
