Financial Update: The Poudre River Library Trust serves as the philanthropic arm of our local public library system, raising funds and building an endowment to support the growth and vitality of the libraries that are so important to our community. The Library Trust is in sound financial health with assets of more than $500,000 invested at the Community Foundation and other accounts. We have a goal of reaching 1 million dollars in our Endowment Fund to help provide for the future needs of the Poudre River Public Library District.
And A Challenge: Give Where You Live! On Tuesday, December 7, 2021 we will be participating again in Colorado Gives Day, the statewide effort to celebrate and increase philanthropy. This year's campaign will raise funds for the Poudre River Library Trust to support enhancements to a new book van, a kiddo cove at Old Town Library, a teen area refresh at Council Tree Library, ScanEZ document/photo scanning stations, and increase the Endowment to benefit our Libraries long term.
We are "raising the bar" and want to challenge ourselves and our supporters with the goal of doubling last year's donor participation and dollar donations. We know many of you have been part of Colorado Gives in the past and we appreciate your support of our libraries. You don't have to wait until December to make your donation. Starting November 1, you can preschedule your gift amount to the Poudre River Library Trust with Colorado Gives, and it will be activated on Colorado Gives Day.
The Poudre River Library Trust, Inc. was founded in 1999 by a dedicated group of library supporters. Trust board members, honorary board members and a small group of other private citizens committed start-up funds to establish the Trust.
The Trust has established a fund to ensure that the Poudre River Public Library District can respond to the increasing demands of an inquisitive, progressive and multicultural information society.
While the District has taxing authority, the revenue it raises from the annual mill levy are used to support the operational costs of the District's three libraries. Long-term capital needs will require raising additional funds from private, foundation and corporate sources.
The Trust's first goal is to support and enhance the Library's future facilities construction program. The second goal is to be able to continue the important community contribution that the Library District serves by working toward a million-dollar endowment. The revenue earned from this endowment with give the libraries a way to enhance their reach into our community and to make up for funding that may be lost due to unforeseen perils in the future.
To this end, the Trust is raising funds to support the long-term facilities expansion and enhancement of the Library District.
In a democracy, free public libraries are the lifeline to information, education and pleasure for people of all ages and all financial conditions. Information and reading skills are essential to freedom and to a functioning community.
Providing this essential community service is the result of taxpayers' willingness to support our Library District. Our District's Strategic Plan calls for expansion of facilities that are greater than our tax support.
You can assure that our libraries continue to provide needed facilities and a secure future by contributing to the Poudre River Library Trust.
