LIBRARY DISTRICT BOARD OF TRUSTEES ADOPTS FACILITY PLAN
The Poudre River Public Library District Board of Trustees adopted the Library District Facilities Plan at their meeting on July 6, 2008. The Trustees will be working further with all District communities and governing organizations as they refine the details of the plan and set up the specific timeline.

Based on feedback from our January survey combined with recent work by the staff and consultant team, we will have a facility plan that covers the next 10 years. The facility plan was prepared by Aaron Cohen Associates Ltd. An executive summary (PDF format/30K) and full facilities plan (PDF format/5.5MB) are available for review.

Key issues identified to address as part of this plan include:

-The District should adopt a more comprehensive regional library strategy that can provide services to its entire community. The strategy should include the addition of a service center.

-The District should undertake a modest expansion and full remodel of the Main Library building while preserving and enhancing Library Park. This should be accomplished with existing financing in the near term.

-The District should develop a comprehensive plan for optimal services throughout the District, and perform a library service assessment of express kiosks, book drops and materials by mail.

-The District should centralize its service operations such as administration and materials processing into a service center.

-The District should perform an operational analysis for acquiring an automated sorting system.

-The District should explore the use of the Carnegie Building as a joint-use facility between the District and the City of Fort Collins. They should look at ways of enhancing the landscaping in Library Park.

-Within the next five to ten years, the District should construct a regional library and service center complex of approximately 49,000 square feet with an option for community meeting space as part of a shared facility.

-Harmony's Library's meeting space should be expanded within the next five to ten years. The District does not own the Harmony Library building. Modifying or expanding the library will depend on cooperation between the District and the Front Range Community College in all aspects of feasibility considerations, planning and potential implementation.

This Facilities Master Plan is the result of the District's continuing long-range planning efforts. The Board adopted a Strategic Plan in 2008 which sets service priorities through 2011. The Facilities Master Plan identifies the space needs of the District and recommends expanded and additional facilities needed to meet those needs.

HOLLY CARROLL SELECTED AS NEW EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Poudre River Public Library Board of Trustees announced July 13 that Holly Carroll, current Deputy Director of Cleveland Public Library, has been selected as the Library District’s next Executive Director.

“Holly emerged from our national search as an exciting choice to lead our growing District,” said Mary Atchison, Library District Board of Trustees President. “Her extensive experience in library leadership will bring a fresh perspective to our library district and will benefit all of the communities in our District.”

Atchison also applauds Ken Draves, who has served as interim Director since December, for providing stable leadership to the district through the opening of the new Council Tree Library, a rebranding process, and the development and adoption of a long-term facilities plan.

A longtime library professional, Carroll has a Masters of Library Science as well as a Masters of Public Administration. She began her career at the Geauga County Public Library in Chardon, Ohio and also worked for the NOLA Regional Library System where she coordinated resource sharing, continuing education and cooperative purchases for 90 multi-type libraries. She was Director at the Willoughby-Eastlake Public Library until her appointment as Deputy Director of the Cleveland Public Library, a system of a main library and 28 branches. Carroll is also part of the adjunct faculty at Kent State University, School of Library and Information Science.

The new Executive Director is eager to serve. "I am very excited about moving to Northern Colorado as Executive Director of Poudre River Public Library District,” states Carroll. “The library staff and Board of Trustees gave me a warm welcome during my visit last month. I am impressed with the library facilities, services and the phenomenal support of the public. Poudre River Public Library District presents many opportunities for innovation and growth. My husband and I look forward to being active members of the community," she said.

Her leadership roles at the state and national level are well demonstrated. Carroll is an active member in American Library Association and has worked with the Public Awareness Committee, co-chaired the Telecommunications Committee as well as others. She is also actively engaged with the Ohio library community and was President of the Ohio Library Association in 2000.

The Board made its selection and the parties are working out the details with the hope that Carroll will begin work in early September.
